Lidl Ireland forced to stop sale of highly anticipated summer items after dangerous 'huge queues'

Lidl Ireland have been forced to stop the sale of four highly anticipated items due to dangerous 'huge queues' outside their stores.

The Irish retailer informed the public over their Facebook page that they would no longer be selling the special summer items because of fears over customer safety.

They described the demand for the items - a Crivit Outdoor Trampoline; a Smoby Garden Slide; a Gemini Swingset and a Wooden Kitchen as "unprecedented"

In a statement, the retail giant said: "At Lidl, the safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority.

"We have implemented numerous measures across all of our stores over the past two months in order to ensure appropriate social distancing can be achieved.

"Due to unprecedented and exceptional demand for certain items in recent days, we have seen queues form outside our stores prior to opening.

"These queues have made social distancing externally more challenging."

They stated: "For this reason we have made the decision to cancel the following items which were due to be sold on Monday May 4th:

  • Crivit Outdoor Trampoline
  • Smoby Garden Slide
  • Gemini Swingset
  • Wooden Kitchen

They added: "We apologise to all customers who are left disappointed by this decision but we feel the safety of our team and customers must take priority at this challenging time. We will put these items on sale at a future date."
