Lidl donates 379,144 meals to good causes across Scotland

A budget supermarket has donated more than 161 tonnes of surplus food across Scotland.

Lidl redistributed around 379,144 meals to good causes over the last year which has helped support 237 local community projects up and down the country.

The food surplus redistribution scheme has been in place across stores since February last year.

The ' Feed it Back ' campaign, in partnership with Neighbourly , is aimed at reducing food waste across its supply chain as it attempts to cut food waste by 25 per cent across stores by 2020.

Projects supported in Scotland include Helping Hands Edinburgh, Kingdom Foodbank Glasgow, Home-Start North East and Aberdeen Cyrenians.

Mark Newbold, CSR Manager, Lidl GB, said: "We’re seeing just how impactful the Feed it Back network is in connecting local communities with our stores and helping to build strong relationships.

"Through this network it’sgreat to know that we’re making the most of our surplus food by helping organisations across Scotland. We are extremely proud of our Scottish store teams’ efforts to date and look forward to continuing to build these partnerships across the country.”
