THE Scottish LibDems have won the Highland Council by-election for Tain and Easter Ross.
Connie Ramsay, the LibDem candidate, returned 935 first preference votes, and was elected to Highland Council at stage six.
The by-election was called after former SNP councillor Derek Louden stood down
Eric Nimmons, an independent candidate, returned 686 first preference votes, while Peter Newman, the SNP candidate came third on first preference votes with 356.
Reform UK’s candidate Stewart Wilson picked up 312 first preference votes, while Scottish Greens candidate Andrew Barnett returned 78.
The Scottish Tory candidate, Manuel Androulakakis, came in last place for first preference votes, with 45. The turnout for the Ward 7 by-election was 33.8%.
Ramsay will join fellow councillors Laura Dundas and Maureen Ross, both independent, in representing the ward.
It is understood Ramsay did not attend the count on Friday.
