Liam Morrison earns Bayern Munich accolade as former Celtic star mixes it with world's best

Scottish defender Liam Morrison has been named among numerous highly-rated youngsters in a prestigious list of young talent.

An annual list of the 60 best young talents in football is compiled by the Guardian, and this year Morrison has made the cut.

The list takes in players who were born in 2003, and 17-year-old Morrison is among them.

The centre-back was part of Celtic's Under-17 squad, and joined Bayern Munich's equivalent in July 2019. This summer he became part of the Bundesliga club's Under-19 setup.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon was desperate to keep hold of Morrison last summer, and the player is regarded as one of the best central defenders Scottish football has produced in years.

Their profile quotes Morrison's Scotland youth coach Brian McLaughlin, who said: “He has all the potential to be a Champions League centre-back.

“I believe their academy people have likened him to a young Mats Hummels and I think it is a good comparison. You have a centre-back who is equally comfortable playing on the right or the left and has the ability to beat a man if he has to.”
