Liam Buckley reckons Sligo Rovers have a made a 'statement of intent' by tying up new contracts

Liam Buckley feels Sligo Rovers have made a ‘statement of intent’ by tying Johnny Dunleavy and Romeo Parkes to new contracts.

The experienced defender and the club’s leading scorer have today signed deals until the end of the 2020 season.

Dunleavy has put serious injury problems behind him to make 20 appearances this season following his move from Cork City.

And Parkes is the Bit O’Red’s sharpest shooter so far in this campaign with seven goals to his name.

Parkes said: “I’d like for us to keep improving. I’ve scored some goals and there are more to come.”

And Dunleavy said: “I’m feeling stronger and stronger and my performances are reflecting that now.”

Boss Liam Buckley - who faces his old club St Pat’s at Richmond Park on Friday - is happy to get the business done early.

“It’s a statement of intent of what the club is thinking,” he said. “We’re trying to build something and the next target is to bring some great days to the club.”
