Lewis Miley reveals brilliant message Eddie Howe gave him seconds before Newcastle United debut

Lewis Miley has revealed the message he got from Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall before stepping on to the big stage at Stamford Bridge for his Premier League debut.

Miley is now the youngest player to play in the Premier League for United, and almost capped the moment with a debut strike. Indeed, just moments after coming on from the bench, Miley took on a long range shot and the ball clipped the top of the bar.

Miley told Chronicle Live after the game: "It was a great experience for me, coming here to Chelsea and playing for my boyhood club was a great feeling.

"It was close (the shot), I thought it was just dipping in but it was very unlucky. It was just instinctive really. Cal (Wilson) had the ball and it got sent back so I thought I'd have a shot.

"I had no fear taking on that shot. Hopefully, I can do that going forward."

Miley had fans chanting his name just seconds after his arrival as Howe finished the season with an Academy debut. Miley now wants to build on this moment next season.

He said: "I saw the ball come back to me and just thought: 'hit it'. It's ended up and hit the bar. But it's still a great feeling. It gives me the confidence to keep going.

"I just want to keep being involved with the first-team and in Premier League games. I am a creative player and like to show endurance running around the pitch."

Reflecting on the "one of our own" chant by the Newcastle fans, Miley said: "What a feeling it was to step on to the pitch, I have dreamt about that since I was a little boy. I did hear it in the background a bit. That was a great feeling too."

But the moment that many fans can only dream arrived with the clock on 75 minutes. Miley said: "Jason Tindall told me to warm up, then they (Tindall and Howe) shouted me over, two minutes later and told me to: 'Go and enjoy yourself.'

"It has been great for my development. Players like Kieran Trippier have really helped me settle in as well as the other lads."
