Lewis Hamilton made a quick dash from the Miami Grand Prix to New York City last week, as he rushed to fulfill his co-chairing duties at the 2025 Met Gala. He was tapped by Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, to hold the position for the first time alongside Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams during fashion’s biggest night.
“The Met Gala was incredible, and it wasn't easy to go from the race to that,” he told reporters in Imola on Thursday. “It's a pretty packed schedule. When you're hosting, there's a lot more involved,” he explained. “Normally, when you're fortunate enough to be a guest, you can get there at 7 or 8pm and enjoy your night - I was there from 4pm.”
Inspired by the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme’s “Tailored for You” dress code, Hamilton looked immaculate in an ivory suit designed by Wales Bonner. After a day of fittings, he and his fellow co-chairs headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where they prepared to greet every A-lister after they ascended the famed steps.
“It was a real honor and a privilege to stand alongside Anna [Wintour] and see the amount of work she puts into the event. It's pretty insane,” he said. “When you walk in, she greets every single person. I stood there with her, greeting a lot of people - pretty much everyone.” Wintour, who “knows everyone’s name and what they do” made sure to introduce guests to the seven-time world champion.

Hamilton also reflected on his past experience at the 2021 Met Gala, where he purchased a table for emerging Black designers who otherwise might not have access to the prestigious event. Now just four years later in 2025, the evening was focused on Black men's fashion and its connection to dandyism.
“The whole night [extended] from my table in 2021 to the theme that we ended up having,” he said of the 2025 dress code. “And then to watch Stevie Wonder perform … for me, growing up, listening to Stevie Wonder and then all of a sudden he's performing in front of me, that was a highlight.”
He continued, “Standing up alongside people I grew up with as a kid, listening to [Wonder’s] music and admiring how he dressed. Now I'm standing alongside doing the same job, in a sense, for the event. It was pretty incredible.”
In true Hamilton fashion, however, it was only one day off. “I had some time to train and to prepare for this week,” he said of the Emilia Romagna GP, his first race in Italy since becoming a Ferrari driver.
“I got a lot of sleep last week and a lot of training. I feel really refreshed coming into this race,” Hamilton says ahead of the 2025 Imola GP.
