Lewis Hamilton 'not the same man' after life-changing journey to Africa

Lewis Hamilton has said that he is "not the same man" after a life-changing journey to Africa during the Formula One summer break.

The 37-year-old racing driver wanted to spend the time "tracing his roots" and has shared his experiences with fans on Instagram with a series of photos and videos from his travels.

The sportsman wanted to "connect to his history" and after his trip he said that he could "feel my ancestors with me now stronger than I ever have before."

Alongside a series of snaps from his African journey, Lewis wrote a lengthy caption explaining the emotions he has felt over the past couple of weeks.

Lewis wrote: "These past two weeks have been some of the best days of my entire life.

"I’m not the same man I was before this trip, all the beauty, love, and peacefulness I experienced has me feeling fully transformed.

"No amount of photos could capture how I’m feeling now and what I’m trying to say. Just know, where words fall short emotions run deep."

The F1 star continued: "I connected with my roots and my history and I feel my ancestors with me now stronger than I ever have before. Namibia, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania thank you.

"To the people here, the nature and the wildlife thank you."

Lewis concluded: "We were welcomed to each beautiful place we visited. We were treated like family. To my brothers who joined me on this journey, thank you. I know we’ll be talking about this forever."

Among the images shared on Instagram, Lewis can be seen admiring the breathtaking view from atop a mountain while in another mountainous pic, he is wearing a khaki outfit with a bucket hat.

He is seen interacting with local villagers in a number of other pics as he travelled through Namibia, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Lewis is also seen watching elephants in their natural habitat as well as chatting to children in their homes.

He spent time with the Pokot people in Kenya and Lewis shared a video of them together in their village.

Lewis said that he had a deeper understanding of where he came from after speaking with the Pokot people and told them he was grateful for the experience he has had with them.
