Lewis Ferguson 'tracked' by Everton and Leicester move as ex Celtic boss linked with Bologna star

Lewis Ferguson has been linked with a move to the English Premier League after impressing heavily at Bologna since his move from Aberdeen in the summer - with Leicester and Everton reportedly hot on his tails.

Ferguson burst through the Hamilton youth academy after being released by Rangers aged just 14. The Dons snapped him up from Accies five years later, and he starred at Pittodrie for four strong years, becoming more and more pivotal with each passing season.

Celtic and Rangers were credited with a interest in his services, although that never came to fruition - much to uncle Barry's confusion - and a move to Italy blossomed instead. However, according to reports in Italy, Ferguson could see himself come back to these shores - albeit to Leicester or Everton, with journalist Nicolo Schira crediting the Foxes and the Toffees with an interest after a super start to life in Italy.

Brendan Rodgers' side are preparing to lose Youri Tielemans on a free in the summer, and with James Maddison's future also uncertain, there could be room for midfield additions at the King Power Stadium - with the former Celtic boss supposedly keen on filling one of those spaces with Ferguson. Alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the pair would offer more athleticism than Tielemans and Maddison amid a potential change in playing style from Rodgers.

Elsewhere, Everton have shown a real lack of midfield quality of recent, with Idrissa Gana Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure both under the thumb from fans as they fall perilously closer to the drop. Ferguson would add a level of consistency to the blue half of Merseyside, though it remains to be seen if they will become a Premier League team come the end of the season.

With Ferguson see to see the campaign out with Bologna, it is unsure how much their asking price would be for the 23-year-old, who has three goals in 16 Serie A appearances this season.

Uncle and Rangers legend Barry previously rued the decision for the Light Blues failing to take up a move for Lewis, having been linked heavily in the past.
