Lewis Capaldi performs secret concert on rooftop of Aldi

Lewis Capaldi sent shoppers at Aldi into meltdown when he performed a surprise show on the rooftop of their local store.

The Scottish singer - who is currently on his comeback UK tour - popped up on the roof of the supermarket, which was rebranded “Cap-Aldi” for the event, to belt out some of his biggest hits on Friday.

The 28-year-old literally stopped traffic with his antics, as cars halted in the middle of the road to watch and gobsmacked crowds gathered outside the branch in Nottingham.

He sang his new track Something In The Heavens as well as his comeback single Survive and one of his best-known hits, the 2019 ballad Someone You Loved.

“This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi,” he told the crowd.

“Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I apologise. But I was back there earlier, some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots – the lot.”

Capaldi also dropped an F-bomb before asking the crowd: “Can I swear? Am I allowed to swear? No?”

As fans shouted, “Yes!” the singer quipped: “F**k it.”

He then likened the event to The Beatles’ final public performance, which took place in 1969 on the rooftop of their Apple Corps HQ in London.

He added: “Not that we’re as… never mind.”

It’s not the first time Capaldi has pulled out a thoughtful gesture for his fans.

Earlier this week it was revealed he donated “a few thousand” to a fan with a rare disease 10 minutes after meeting her outside his concert.

The Before You Go singer spotted Madeleine Thurgood and her mother Carina before his concert at the 02 Arena last week and introduced himself to them.

Carina explained that Madeleine, who uses a wheelchair, has Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia 15, a recessive genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle stiffness and weakness.

She gave Capaldi a leaflet to a charity football match they were putting on, and while the singer apologised for not being able to attend, he was quick to make a donation to their organisation.

Capaldi is currently touring the UK after returning to the spotlight with a surprise show at this summer’s Glastonbury following a two-year hiatus.

Last Friday, Capaldi has added a second BST Hyde Park show for next summer after overwhelming demand.

The BRIT Award winner will perform on July 12 2026 after his Saturday 11 July date sold out. Tickets for the newly announced London show are on sale now.
