Lewis Capaldi joins fellow Scots LF System in Song of The Year category at The BRIT Awards 2023

Scots stars Lewis Capaldi and LF System have been nominated at The BRIT Awards 2023 for Song Of The Year.

The ceremony will take place at The O2 in London on February 11, be hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan and broadcast live on STV. The BRITs will honour the achievements of the biggest music artists, in both the UK and internationally.

The nominations were announced by BBC Radio 1 presenters' Vick Hope, who is engaged to Scots DJ Calvin Harris, and Jack Saunders during a live stream on the official awards social media channels today. The duo enlisted the help of Olympian Tom Daley and I’m A Celebrity winner Jill Scott for the reveal.

Harry Styles and Wet Leg are taking the awards by storm with nominations in four different categories, while Stormzy, dance producer Fred Again.., The 1975, and Arctic Monkeys are recognised in three.

Taking to Twitter after the announcement was made, Capaldi cheekily wrote: "It’s an honour to be nominated for British Song Of The Year. I very much look forward to seeing @Harry_Styles accept the award #BRITs"

Capaldi, 26, is currently in a battle for this week’s Number 1 spot in the singles chart with singer-songwriter Raye, who is set to support the cheeky crooner on his UK arena tour starting in Leeds on Saturday.

Duo LF System, who hail from West Lothian, took the charts by storm last year with their gold-certified single, ‘Afraid To Feel’, which spent seven weeks at the top of the singles chart. Taking to social media after The BRIT nominees were released, the duo - made up of producers Conor Larkman and Sean Finnigan - were buzzing over the news.

Writing on Instagram, the group said: "How mental we're nominated for a @brits award. A huge thank you to everyone who bought, streamed, listened or just didn’t turn the radio off when Afraid To Feel came on. We wouldn’t be here without you.

"Massive amount of love to Beatport, Billboard, DJ Mag, Notion & NPR for including us in their best of 2022 features too."

They added: "We’ve been taking some time off and have been getting stuck into the studio so we have plenty new fire to play you on our upcoming Oz/NZ Tour (another Tour announced VERY soon) and in the summer.

"We’ll be back very soon - 2023 we're coming baby. Big love. LF x"

The 2023 Song of the Year with Mastercard nominees are:

Aitch/Ashanti - Baby
Cat Burns - Go
Dave - Starlight
Ed Sheeran & Elton John - Merry Christmas
Eliza Rose/Interplanetary Criminal - B.O.T.A (Baddest Of Them All)
George Ezra - Green Green Grass

Last month it was announced that the fast-rising British girl group FLO had won the BRITs 2023 Rising Star Award. They are the first girl group to win the award and the first group of any type to win it since Florence + The Machine in 2009.

Four categories are open to public voting – Best Pop/R&B Act, Best Rock/Alternative Act, Best Dance Act, and Best Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act. Fans can vote for who they want to win each award 10 times per category a day on TikTok from 12pm on January 19 until 12pm on February 2.
