Lewis Capaldi gives emotional performance at funeral of young Scottish teen

Lewis Capaldi was one of many Scots who came together on Friday to celebrate the life of teenager Lily Douglas.

The 14-year-old tragically passed away from cancer earlier this year, after being diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in 2017.

Hoping to try a new drug to help beat the disease, Lily had travelled from Perth to Newcastle with her family, but suffered a serious bleed on the brain not long after arriving.

Befriending a number of celebrities over the years, including the likes of Arlene Philips and Ella Henderson, tributes had flooded in for the teen after she passed away on January 23.

A huge turnout was also seen on Friday, February 11, as thousands hoped to pay their respects at St Matthew's Church in Perth.

Performing a tribute to Lily, Lewis Capaldi had attended the service, and had made the congregation chuckle before giving an emotional rendition of 'Someone you Loved.'

According to the Record, the West Lothian singer said Oh I'm nervous", before joking "If anyone's phone rings, don't worry it's probably God ringing to say this is his favourite song."

The service had been coined as "a celebration of Lily's life" and, although it was invite only, it was live streamed to over 2,000 people who tuned in to take part.

Dozens gathered on the street outside the church to watch the ceremony on a large screen.

Many were holding balloons and wearing Lily's favourite colour, pink.

Lily will now be buried privately on Monday.
