Michael Fisher owed some of his steely cussedness to the four years he spent at St Louis, Banbury, an eccentric Oxfordshire prep school of 50 boys.
Although, in later life, he liked to dissociate himself from anything as conventional as sporting prowess, he was in fact an excellent cricketer and courageous full-back, tackling everything that came his way, just as he did in his career as a fearless lawyer.
