Let's get the party started! Thousands flock to Ibiza as island reopens for UK holidaymakers

The party has restarted for thousands of UK holidaymakers who arrived in Ibiza by the planeload.

The stampede to the sun started early on Friday from airports around the country and jets were packed with UK tourists desperate to reach the White Isle after a Covid-enforced absence.

On the Jet2 flight from Manchester, a hen party toasted the resumption of quarantine-free travel with early morning fizz, while couples and families were also onboard.

Cabin manager Mark said all the crew were overwhelmed to be flying again.

“It’s wonderful to have you back and enjoy the sunshine,” he told passengers as they embarked in 30C-plus heat.

Hotels across Ibiza and its sister island Formentera have been waiting months for the influx from the UK.

A convoy of coaches ferried guests from the airport to the five-star Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa complex, which is one of the resort’s best hotels.

Bars and restaurants are also geared up to receive holidaymakers from the UK and get tills ringing again.

Jet2 is flying daily to the Balearic Islands and the prospect of rising COVID infections didn’t seem to concern the parade of sun-seekers as they arrived in the scorching heat.

Paul Kelly, from Manchester, was travelling with pals for a short break. He said: "Getting away is the main thing- it’s been a long time. I feel safer here than in the UK so I am going to enjoy it.”
