The EFL have released a statement confirming that Championship side Derby County lodged an appeal against their 12-point deduction for entering administration last month.
The penalty against the Ram was imposed on the club's 2021/22 season total on September 22.
As a result, the Rams hit rock bottom of the Championship table on minus two points after the opening nine games.
Wayne Rooney's side have since won two games and sit on two points.
"As a consequence, this matter has been referred to an independent Arbitration panel who will consider representations from both parties before making a determination," the EFL statement read.
"At this current time the Club’s points total in the Championship table will remain unchanged."
The initial deduction is standard punishment for clubs going into administration - but the Rams are arguing that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic should be taken into account.
Nottingham Forest fans have expressed their thoughts on the latest news.
One said on Twitter: "They're constantly making up their own rules as they go along. Bolton and Wigan had a 12 point deduction the same as well as other clubs, because they was in administration, it's the rules. So why should Derby get special treatment?"
"Never going to happen, EFL would be in trouble if they did," another added.
