Lesmahagow driver Cameron Davidson takes junior title

Lesmahagow driver Cameron Davidson has won the 2019 Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge.

A total of nine Scottish crews made the journey to Anglesey in Wales for the final two rounds of the contest, over the weekend of November 23 and 24.

Also taking part was Lanark’s Justin Gunning, who finished sixth overall in the final positions table.

After a season which started at Ingliston in March, it all came down to an end-of-season showdown, which they shared with the English Formula 1000 Championship.

On a wet and blustery Saturday, Oliver Hunter and Richard Crozier set the pace ahead of Cameron Davidson and Ian McRae, with Jack Hall and Robin Nicolson limping out of day one, though they resumed on Sunday.

Hall’s bowing out made life easier for Davidson, and he was right behind Hunter, who did enough to seal the championship with one round to spare.

With Davidson already having secured the title, the race was literally on for second place.

At the lunch halt, only seven points separated Hall (149), Hunter (147), Letisha Conn (145), Gunning (143) and Thomas Johnstone (142) so there was all to play for, with Hall finishing behind Davidson.

It’s a deserved win for Davidson, who has finished in the top three on every Scottish event this year.
