Les Misérables to move to Gielgud Theatre before getting a new West End production

The current West End production of Les Miserables is going to close at the Queen’s Theatre – to be replaced with a newer version months later.

Audiences can still see the original production until July, at which point Les Mis moves to the Gielgud Theatre, where it will have a four month season while the Queen’s Theatre undergoes renovations.

When the Queen’s Theatre reopens in December, it will be with the new version, which was devised for the show’s 25th anniversary on Broadway in 2009, with new staging and scenery inspired by Victor Hugo’s paintings. The company is being put together and booking will open in February.

The original 1985 production will continue to run at the Queen’s Theatre until July. Plans for its four month season at the Gielgud Theatre have not yet been released.

The new production is currently touring the UK and Ireland as well as America.

Building work backstage and in the auditorium of the Queen’s Theatre will restore boxes and loges which were destroyed by a bomb in 1940. New toilets will also be added to the front of house.
