Leroy Sane’s new representatives have warned Manchester City and Bayern Munich about the interest in the German winger.
Sane’s future at the Etihad has been uncertain for more than a year. A new contract offered by Pep Guardiola’s side has remained unsigned and Bundesliga champions Bayern were so confident they would sign him last summer they had to apologise for the Blues for their public brashness.
A serious injury suffered in August has put the brakes on Sane’s season with Bayern waiting to see how he recovers from the problem, while a change of representation for the player has also slowed negotiations.
Speaking to German publication BILD, new agent Damir Smoljan indicated that Bayern were the only Bundesliga club being considered but also mentioned City and other clubs as interested parties.
“Together with him we talk with Manchester City about what the next step could look like,” he said.
“The interest of FC Bayern is no secret. But other top clubs also contacted us about Leroy.
“FC Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career. He sees there the requirements for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League.”
Guardiola was willing to let Sane leave last summer if the player did not want to remain in Manchester but the club were demanding a fee of £145m for his signature.
That was always going to drop this summer with just a year left on the player’s contract, and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the industry has led to hope from the Bayern end that they could sign the player for a bargain price.
