Leona Maguire rises to career high world ranking after big payday in Florida

Leona Maguire is up to her highest ever world ranking after finishing runner-up in the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida over the weekend.

The Cavan golfer picked up a cheque for $500,000 after finishing two shots behind World No. 2 Lydia Ko.

Maguire is now ranked 11th in the world, jumping nine places in the latest rankings.

She told ASAP Sports: "Obviously I would have loved to have won, but four years ago pretty much this week I missed Q school by a shot. I drove by that exit on Sunday driving down here, and to be here today in this position, it's a big jump forward.

"It's been an incredible year. It’s been my best season so far, and I’ve got better every year. Looking forward to the offseason now and hopefully can have an even better 2023."

Stephanie Meadow is the second highest ranked Irish golfer at 136th, with American Nelly Korda still ranked the world's number one.
