Leo director hurt as crowds surge at Palakkad

Tamil action thriller Leo’s director Lokesh Kanagaraj suffered minor injuries to his legs when fans thronged to see him at a theatre here on Tuesday. Mr. Kanagaraj cancelled his film promotion programmes in Kerala and returned to Chennai after the incident at Aroma Theatre here.

Mr. Kanagaraj reached Aroma Theatre as part of the film promotion on Tuesday morning. The police had to resort to a lathicharge, as the uncontrolled fans rushed into the theatre in hoards. Mr. Kanakaraj suffered an injury to his leg during the commotion.

He cancelled his programmes at Thrissur and Kochi following his bitter experience at Palakkad. He was to visit Ragam and Kavita theatres at Thrissur and Kochi respectively as part of his film’s promotion.

Mr. Kanagaraj shared a picture with the crowd on social media and said that he was “overwhelmed, happy and grateful” to see the fans.

His latest film Leo has been running to packed theatres across the country. It debuted in the third position at the global box office over the latest weekend, with $31.2 million worldwide.
