Man dies after disturbance at Cables Wynd House in Leith as 33-year-old arrested

A MAN has died after a disturbance outside Cables Wynd House in Edinburgh, and a 33-year-old man has been arrested.

Photographs on social media showed emergency services outside Cables Wynd House near Henderson Street with a police cordon erected.

Officers have now confirmed a man was found with serious injuries outside the building – known as the Banana Flats – and he was taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

He died there shortly after.

Henderson Street remains blocked to traffic with several buses rerouted as investigations continue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.45pm on Sunday, 5 July, 2026 police received a report of a disturbance outside Cables Wynd House, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and a man was found with serious injuries.

“He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.

“A 33-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”

Lothian Buses services have been diverted, with the operator unable to serve The Shore and Commercial Street.

Services 16, 17, 35, 36, N16, and N35 have all been diverted via Great Junction Street and North Junction Street in both directions until further notice.

The service 34 has been diverted via Great Junction Street and North Junction Street for the northbound route only until further notice.
