Leigh-Anne 'warned Jesy Nelson not to make skin look darker before blackfishing row'

By Molly Pike

Leigh-Anne Pinnock secretly warned Jesy Nelson about blackfishing before she quit Little Mix, it's claimed.

The singer reportedly had a word of warning for Jesy about making her skin look darker, telling her it is offensive to black people.

The claims have emerged after Jesy was accused of blackfishing, a term used to describe a white person who alters their appearance to look like a black person, in the music video for her song Boyz.

It's now reported that Leigh-Anne, 30, fell out with Jesy, also 30, for using dark fake tan and hairstyles to make it appear that she had black heritage.

The conversation is said to have driven a wedge between the former bandmates before Jesy left Little Mix last December.

A source told The Sun: "Leigh-Anne had a conversation with Jesy, trying to explain why she was upset and why it could be offensive. She felt she had to address it while making her racism documentary, but it apparently fell on deaf ears.

"For Jesy to now claim that it has never been mentioned to her before is really rude.

"It's upsetting she hasn’t taken any of this on board."

The Mirror has contacted reps for Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock and is currently awaiting comment.

It comes after Jesy claimed she had never been accused of blackfishing before.

Speaking to the Guardian, Jesy said: "The whole time I was in Little Mix I never got any of that. Then I came out of [the band] and people all of a sudden were saying it."

There appears to be bad blood between Little Mix and their former bandmate as they all unfollowed her on Instagram this week.

In leaked DMs, Leigh-Anne reportedly said that Jesy had blocked them all and none of them had actually unfollowed her.

The DMs also saw Leigh-Anne asking an Instagram user to call Jesy out for blackfishing.

After she shut down his idea about doing a video for Boyz, the Instagram user, known as No Hun, told her: "Omg Leigh Anne I thought you were all ok."

"Do a video about her being a black fish instead," Leigh-Anne suggested.

NoHun told her "I'm low-key hurt" before Leigh-Anne claimed that Jesy was responsible for the strained relationship with her ex bandmates.

The new mum penned: "She blocked us. Cut us off. Horrible person."

There is no confirmation yet about whether the leaked DMs were actually from Leigh-Anne.

Leigh-Anne was also seen liking a video that criticised Jesy.
