Leicester considering move for former player Danny Drinkwater as Chelsea look to slim down squad

Leicester City are considering the possibility of taking Danny Drinkwater back from Chelsea, after just a year at Stamford Bridge.

Drinkwater moved to London for £35m on deadline day last summer, in what seemed a panic buy, but the midfielder went on to make only a handful of appearances for Chelsea across the 2017/18 season.

Chelsea are now looking to reshape the side with Maurizio Sarri in place, and bring in players more suited to his style, particularly in midfield.

With Jorginho already in and Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic set to follow, along with a more prominent role for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the club want to move out a number of their peripheral players – most notably Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Milan are interested in Bakayoko but The Independent has been told Leicester are considering taking back one of their title-winning heroes from the 2015/16 season.

Drinkwater joined Leicester in 2011 and went on to make 193 league appearances for the side. He played a prominent role alongside N’Golo Kante in the club’s historic title-winning season two years ago.
