Leeds United warned over contract priority as investment claim made

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the Whites to secure a new deal for winger Jack Harrison. His current contract is set to expire in 2024, meaning that he could enter next season in the final year of his contract.

Leeds rejected two bids for Harrison from Newcastle in the summer and put a £35million price tag on the former Manchester City man.

Robinson, who spent six years at Leeds after coming through their youth ranks, believes Leeds must extend Harrison's contract either to keep hold of him or to increase his price tag if Newcastle renew their interest.

“Harrison is a player they need to keep a hold of," Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “Leeds fought off interest from Newcastle and reportedly Everton as well and they couldn’t afford to let him go as well as Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.

“Jack’s the kind of player who’s growing in confidence, he’s fitting in well with Jesse Marsch’s system and the manager clearly likes him so there’s no reason you shouldn’t extend his contract.

“Leeds should keep him at the club as long as they can because it works for both because somebody will have to buy him out of that long-term contract.

“It’s beneficial to the club as a long-term investment and if Newcastle come knocking again, then the price tag is going to be a lot higher than it was.”

Harrison has scored one goal and provided three assists in six appearances so far this season. He spent three seasons on loan at Leeds from Man City, first joining in 2018, before signing on a permanent basis in 2021.

He has registered 29 goals and 25 assists in 172 appearances during his four years at Elland Road.
