Leeds United transfer rumours as PSV director opens up on Whites' summer Cody Gakpo pursuit

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Monday, September 4.

Gakpo

PSV club director John De Jong has confirmed Leeds United failed to make a good enough concrete offer for Cody Gakpo. Leeds were in strongly for the Dutchman on deadline day and Victor Orta even flew in to Netherlands to discuss a potential transfer.

De Jong admitted Orta did speak to Gakpo, but given the time of the transfer window, the offer was not enough. “Leeds TD (Orta) flew in and talked to Cody,” he said, as quoted by Voetbal.

“We received and listened to Leeds, but in the end, no concrete offer was put on the table where we thought we should sell it now. I think everyone knows that a club has to make an outgoing transfer every year.

“That’s in the budget. So did we, but in the end, there was not such a good offer on the table that we really considered letting him go.”

Brereton-Diaz

Leeds United will reportedly return for Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz in January, according to Football Insider. Leeds have had a long standing interest in Brereton-Diaz and made a late play to sign him on deadline day.

Rovers, however, deemed the Whites’ offer as too low and so Brereton-Diaz remained at Ewood Park. The Chile international is out of contract next summer and some reports indicate he will not sign a new deal.

Ashby

Leeds United will reportedly reignite their interest in West Ham right back Harrison Ashby in January, according to Alan Nixon. He claims that the Hammers will offer him a new deal in order to fend off interest after Leeds made a late attempt to sign him.

Newcastle United were also interested in a summer move for Ashby, but neither club were able to agree a deal.
