Leeds United transfer rumours as Bundesliga star linked with Whites

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Sunday, April 17.

Grillitsch on Leeds radar as contract nears expiration

Florian Grillitsch is gaining plenty of traction going into the summer as his contract with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim is set to expire. A number of sides in the Champions League and Europa League have been linked with a move for him and the Daily Mail are now reporting that Leeds have joined the list of potential suitors.

Although, in the same report, there are claims that the arrival of Grillitsch would be part of the preparation plan for life without Kalvin Phillips. Contradicting rumours in the last few days have suggested the England midfielder is close to agreeing a new deal so hopefully the Austrian would join him in the middle of the park at Elland Road, rather than replace him.

Gvardiol transfer battle heating up

Central defenders that are comfortable with the ball at their feet have become one of the most sought-after assets in modern football. Factor in the rarity of those types of defenders who are primarily left-footed and it is an extremely scarce market.

Josko Gvardiol has announced himself as one of the best to fit that profile in the last couple of seasons and could be on the verge of a big-money move. Reports in the last few days have suggested Leeds - who were first linked with the defender in 2019 - could smash their transfer record to bring him to Elland Road from RB Leipzig but they are likely to face stiff competition.

Tottenham have long been linked with a move for the Croatian centre back as well as several other teams across Europe so it’s certainly one to keep a keen eye on.

Leeds on alert after Graham Potter’s Roberts comments

As part of the mass investment in the club’s development squads, Brighton’s Haydon Roberts emerged as one of the main targets for Leeds. Victor Orta was really keen on a move for the young defender a couple of years ago but his approach was rejected.

Despite suggesting that they saw a future for Roberts on the South coast, the Seagulls have hardly used him since with his first-team game time limited to just a few Carabao Cup appearances. With the summer transfer window on the horizon, his manager Graham Potter was asked about his future.

He told Sussex Live : "Like any player, there comes a point where you need to play football, and play football more regularly. I think he has learnt a lot and grown but to get the benefit of this period he needs to go and play football and hopefully next season that can be the plan."
