Leeds United squad revealed for West Brom trip amid defensive absences and short turnaround

Leeds United are quickly back in action tonight, when they visit West Bromwich Albion for their final match of 2020.

Coming just 52 hours after the final whistle sounded against Burnley, Marcelo Bielsa's side travel down to the West Midlands to take on Sam Allardyce's West Brom side who held Liverpool to a draw at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Bielsa was forced into fielding a makeshift defence against the Clarets as Luke Ayling, Kalvin Phillips and Pascal Struijk made up a three-man back-line in the absence of Leeds' three first-choice centre-backs.

Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente will again be missing for the Whites tonight, although Bielsa is likely to revert to a back-four given that West Brom usually operate with a lone striker.

Elsewhere, Bielsa will again be without long-term injury absentees Gaetano Berardi and Adam Forshaw, while Phillips and Mateusz Klich both go into the match on four bookings and know that any caution in Leeds' next dour matches will result in a one-match suspension.

Bielsa will again be permitted to name nine players on the bench following the recent Premier League rule change, which should again see plenty of the club's young prospects earn a place in the matchday squad after eight players aged 21 or under were in the final 20-man squad to face Burnley.

Leeds begin the day 12th in the Premier League table, seven places and 12 points ahead of West Brom, who finished runners up to the Whites in last season's Championship. A win this evening could be enough to see Leeds begin 2021 in the top half of the table.

Full Leeds United squad: Illan Meslier, Luke Ayling, Ian Poveda, Patrick Bamford, Ezgjan Alioski, Tyler Roberts, Kiko Casilla, Stuart Dallas, Helder Costa, Raphinha, Pablo Hernandez, Rodrigo, Pascal Struijk, Jack Harrison, Kalvin Phillips, Leif Davis, Charlie Cresswell, Mateusz Klich, Jamie Shackleton, Jack Jenkins, Oliver Casey
