Leeds United's upcoming tests, opportunities and must-win matches

Leeds United will prepare to travel down to Selhurst Park this weekend where they'll be facing Crystal Palace but the next few weeks of matches will be extremely important for their season.

With the World Cup starting in November, and after the postponements and international break, there is even more of a squeeze on the fixture scheduling meaning form will be vital over the coming matches.

Here is a rundown of the Whites' next five matches and how they'll be important...

Crystal Palace (A) - Sunday, October 9, 14:00

If there's a match Leeds will want to win, it'll be this one. Facing league leaders Arsenal the week after is not an easy challenge and Jesse Marsch's men will want as much momentum as possible when they host Mikel Arteta's Gunners.

Palace only lost in the dying minutes last weekend after a fantastic long-range curling effort from former Eagles loanee Conor Gallagher and looked ok against Chelsea in a game where they didn't have much of the ball.

Manager Patrick Vieira will want his star man Wilfried Zaha on point after he's blanked the last few matches and Marsch will have a big choice to make as to who plays right-back to try and shut him down.

They are carrying quite a few more key injuries than Leeds that should mean Marsch's side can look to exploit them defensively with Joachim Anderson, Nathan Ferguson and Nathaniel Clyne to almost certainly miss this weekend's fixture.

Arsenal (H) - Sunday, October 16, 14:00

League leaders Arsenal will be Leeds' biggest test so far this season but after dispatching a shoddy-looking Chelsea side a few weeks ago, they'll be fancying themselves here against another big London club.

Of course, Mikel Arteta's men are probably the most in-form side in the league bar Manchester City and have scored twice the amount of goals Leeds have this season.

This is the match where Luis Sinisterra returns from his suspension however, meaning the Leeds winger will look to prove those doubters wrong after his early dismissal against Aston Villa.

Leicester (A) - Thursday, October 20, 20:15

After their 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest yesterday, the Foxes could look like a different team by the time Leeds face them. Between now and October 20th, they face Bournemouth and Crystal Palace - two teams that are just above them in the table and not in perfect form.

Shutting down James Maddison will be the priority for the defence and going forward, the Whites will want to use their pace and explosiveness to exploit Leicester's slower defenders like Jonny Evans.

Fulham (H) - Sunday, October 23, 14:00

After their 4-1 loss to Newcastle, Fulham have lost three of their last five and with games against Aston Villa, Bournemouth and West Ham, Leeds could find a huge three points that means they'll climb further up the league table.

Fulham currently sit just two points ahead of Leeds and with target man Aleksandar Mitrovic dealing with an injured foot, it could be a rocky few games for the Cottagers before they travel to Elland Road.

Liverpool (A) - Saturday, October 29, 19:45

Jurgen Klopp's side haven't looked their usual selves this season and, after dropping further points to Brighton, look to be slipping further and further away from a title challenge.

Playing Arsenal, Manchester City and West Ham in the next two weeks will be their biggest test of the season and if they come out of that with less than six points, they could easily be for the taking if Leeds play their game.

They could rebound against Nottingham Forest in between the Hammers and their match against Leeds but Leeds could be coming into the match off back-to-back wins against Leicester and Fulham meaning Liverpool could be in real trouble.
