Leeds United's final points tally forecast by data scientists

The Championship season is just past the half-way mark, and to the surprise of some, it's West Brom who still lead the way.

The Baggies hold a three-point lead over second-placed Leeds United, despite both sides dropping points on Boxing Day.

A late Stuart Dallas effort rescued the Whites a point against Preston North End at Elland Road, while Albion were also held to the same scoreline by Barnsley at Oakwell.

But despite the set-back, Marcelo Bielsa's side still remain the favourites to win the Championship title come May with the bookies.

And according to data scientists FiveThirtyEight's supercomputer , the Whites will return to the Premier League as champions, winning the league with 90 points.

West Brom are also being backed to win promotion with 87 points, seven points ahead of Brentford who are predicted to finish third.

The statistical modelling has also worked out there is an 83 and 69 percent chance of Leeds and West Brom returning to the Premier League this season.

With the play-off race already heating up, Brentford will be the nearest challenger to the top two. The Bees have a 55 percent chance of finishing inside the top six.

Alongside them will be Fulham (49 percent), Sheffield Wednesday (45 percent) and Preston North End (40 percent), with nine points separating third from sixth.

At the bottom end of the table, Luton Town are predicted to finish bottom of the Championship.

The Hatters have a 71 percent chance of return to League One after one season, according to the Supercomputer.

They'll be joined by Barnsley - 53 percent chance of relegation - and Wigan Athletic - who have a 54 percent chance of returning to the third tier this season.
