Leeds United's Cody Drameh named Cardiff City player of the season as Rubin Colwill picks up two awards

Cody Drameh and Rubin Colwill were the big winners on the night at Cardiff City's end-of-season awards.

The ceremony, held at Cardiff City Stadium after the Bluebirds' 1-1 draw with Birmingham City, was back after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic and was attended by the Steve Morison and his players.

Leeds United loanee Drameh, who only joined the club in January, and local product Colwill picked up the main silverware at the awards, with the former taking the young player of the season award and the player of the season gong, while Wales youngster Colwill grabbed the academy player of the season accolade and goal of the season for his free-kick against QPR in March.

Alex Smithies, who will be leaving the club upon the conclusion of his contract this summer, was voted players' player of the season for his performances between the sticks.

Ffion Price was named women players' player of the season, Seren Watkins picked up the young player of the campaign and Siobhan Walsh was selected as the women's manager's player of the season.

Meanwhile, Melvyn Burlace was recognised for his work with the club's veterans' hub and with the Positive Pathways Project.

Drameh's impact since signing on from Elland Road in January has been marked; along with Man City's Tommy Doyle, the right-back's displays have been energetic and sometimes even freakish in nature. Morison has made no secret of the fact he'd like to sign the youngster again for next season, but the reality is a club further up the financial foodchain will snap him up if Leeds don't decide to keep him around.

Colwill has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Welsh capital and will be looking to further put his stamp on a first-team berth next term, with a place at the World Cup also in his sights should Wales qualify for the tournament in Qatar.
