Leeds United player ratings as Alioski and the attackers struggle in Brighton win

Leeds United (4-1-4-1)

1 Illan Meslier - six

Got close to the penalty, but no cigar. Had a subdued afternoon like a lot of the team. Would have had more saves to make if it wasn't for such poor finishing from the hosts.

2 Luke Ayling (c) - five

Had a rough afternoon trying to guard Danny Welbeck and then Dan Burn after the break. Went quiet as the captain after the break in what was a flat performance across the side. Errors seeped into his match after the hour mark.

14 Diego Llorente - six

Did a better job with Neal Maupay than others did with their markers, but this was one of those afternoons where the ambitious confidence in his playing out from the back did not always put the team in a better position.

21 Pascal Struijk - six

Very similar to Llorente. No real shockers, kept Maupay quiet, but passes were not always on point.

10 Ezgjan Alioski - four

A very poor performance from Alioski and with options emerging around the team for replacements, you wonder how many more times we could see him as the season comes to a conclusion. Terrible decision-making with the penalty and failed to make simple passes count throughout his half. Leandro Trossard rang rings around him.

5 Robin Koch - five

An up and down afternoon for the Germany international completing his first 90 minutes in this role. Seemed comfortable popping up in advanced positions, but passing did let him down at times. Will take time for him to develop in the role, of course.

15 Stuart Dallas - six

A steady afternoon once more without any major problems. Moved to left-back after the break and did far better with Trossard than Alioski.

43 Mateusz Klich - four

Failed to provide the control the team needed in the middle of the park and found himself bullied by Yves Bissouma.

11 Tyler Roberts - four

Similar to Klich. Never really looked like picking the locks Leeds needed him to when he had the ball at his feet. Spent a lot of the match chasing after Ben White as he stormed out of defence.

22 Jack Harrison - four

Brought next to no danger in the final third. Could regularly hear his cries of anguish with poor deliveries from his own boots.

9 Patrick Bamford - four

Barely had a kick. As he was in the first game, he was swamped by the three centre-backs. The latest in a long line of frustrating matches for the striker with any Golden Boot hopes long gone.

Substitutes

13 Kiko Casilla

7 Ian Poveda (on for Alioski h/t) - five

Lightweight and easily dispossessed by the Brighton backline. Tried running at the taller defenders, but never got past them to make anything happen for the team.

19 Pablo Hernandez (on for Llorente 79min) - N/A

20 Rodrigo (on for Bamford 59min) - five

One great chance inside the box with the space to shoot, but charged down. Low-key other than that.

28 Gaetano Berardi

37 Cody Drameh

46 Jamie Shackleton

47 Jack Jenkins

52 Niall Huggins
