Leeds United news as Whites set to miss out on Man City starlet to Championship side

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, 3 August 2022.

Leeds miss out on McAtee

Leeds United are set to miss out on the signing of Manchester City midfielder James McAtee as he closes in on a move to Sheffield United. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that an agreement over a loan deal has been reached and it could be announced as early as this week.

Leeds have been linked with McAtee throughout the summer and both a potential permanent and loan deal were touted. However, with City viewing him as an excellent prospect for the future, they are keen for him to go out and play regular minutes, which Sheffield United will be able to offer more of than Leeds.

Milan confirm CDK

Leeds United target Charles De Ketelaere has finally been announced as an AC Milan player. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the San Siro after joining from Club Brugge.

The Whites made De Ketelaere their number one target for the top end of the pitch this summer, but the Belgian made it clear that he wanted to join AC Milan, who offer the pull of Champions League football.

De Ketelaere's transfer saga dragged on, with Milan and Club Brugge failing to meet an agreement for some time, but his move to the Serie A champions has now been confirmed.

Koch on Haaland

Leeds United defender Robin Koch is relishing the opportunity of going toe-to-toe with Manchester City forward Erling Haaland. Leeds-born Haaland, whose father Alfie-Inge played 92 times for United across all competitions, arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund for £51.2m this summer.

Koch has only previously come up against Haaland when his Germany under-21 side prevailed 2-1 over Norway in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier in October 2018. The Leeds centre-back has enjoyed a positive pre-season after two years marred by injury and is looking forward to testing himself against the Norwegian international.

“Definitely [I am looking forward to testing myself against Haaland],” Koch told Sky Deutschland. “You play against top strikers in every game here anyway, so you look forward to all duels – including the one against Erling Haaland.”
