Leeds United news as Rio Ferdinand scoffs at Richard Keys and Andy Gray's managerial claim

A look at your Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, March 2.

Ferdinand slams Allardyce to Leeds claims

When Marcelo Bielsa was relieved of his duties at Elland Road, the usual suspects were suggesting that Leeds should go after a ‘survival specialist’ to keep them in the Premier League.

Richard Keys and Andy Gray both claimed that Sam Allardyce would be a wiser appointment than Marsch due to his experience of managing sides at the bottom end of the table.

Like almost everyone else who has watched football in the last few years, Rio Ferdinand immediately dismissed a claim that the former, brief, England manager would sort out the problems at Leeds.

On the ex-Leeds defender’s VibeWithFIVE YouTube channel, he said: “Is that what they [Keys and Gray] said? You can’t go from Bielsa to Big Sam. No! Big Sam is their mate, isn’t he?!”

Marsch's footballing ethos reflected in Salzburg alumni

New Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has often been praised for his track record of developing young players into European superstars.

Across his spells with both RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, a number of youngsters have become household names thanks, in part, to the American coach.

Erling Haaland, Patson Daka, Takumi Minamino, Dominik Szoboszlai and Karim Adeyemi are among those who flourished under Marsch’s tuition during his time in Austria.

Whereas, even in his brief stint at Leipzig, Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol were two of the players whom he helped announce to the footballing world.

Vardy fires Leeds warning but halts Burnley progress

There will have been plenty of Leeds eyes on proceedings at Turf Moor last night as relegation rivals Burnley took on Leicester, Marsch’s first opponents as Whites boss.

The Clarets had Nick Pope to thank for staying in the game as he made several great saves to deny the visitors.

Although, he couldn’t continue his heroics in the closing stages as James Maddison and Jamie Vardy came from the bench and scored a goal apiece to take the game beyond Sean Dyche’s side.

The result leaves Burnley inside the relegation zone which is good news for Leeds but the bad news is that Vardy looks bang in form on his return from a nine-week injury lay-off.

When they travel to King Power Stadium on Saturday, Marsch’s defence will have to pay special attention to the former England striker, as they did when the sides met back in November.
