Leeds United news as club make Elland Road Covid protocol updates

Here are this morning's latest Leeds United headlines on Thursday, January 21.

Elland Road update

Leeds United have reportedly moved to install AstroTurf on steps inside Elland Road as part of their commitments to abide by ongoing Covid protocols.

The Daily Mail report that there had been concerns that the steps visiting teams used to walk from the temporary away changing facilities which are currently in what used to be the bar and hospitality areas by the Norman Hunter Stand were a potential slip hazard.

Does no goals in three games worry Bielsa?

The club quickly responded to these safety concerns from officials by installing AstroTurf on the steps in the West Stand and also ensured an effective referee bell was present in the away dressing room.

The Mail quote a Leeds spokesperson: 'The only concerns raised by the compliance team from the Premier League have been regarding the referee bell and a need for some AstroTurf on the steps leading to the pitch — both of which have been resolved.’

Teams across the country have had to quickly adapt to Covid protocols which have meant that most conventional away dressing rooms are unable to be used in order to comply with social distancing. This has led to other facilities being repurposed and temporary structures being built at grounds across the Premier League and below.

Koch fitness update

Leeds United defender Robin Koch has given the club a boost by sending out an update on his recovery from injury.

The German international underwent surgery on his right knee to treat a meniscus injury last month and was ruled out for three months.

He has missed Leeds' last eight matches, but has now stepped up his recovery, sharing a picture of him doing gym work.
