Here are the Leeds United headlines for Tuesday, June 23.
Leeds are best team in the league, says Harris
Cardiff City's win over Leeds United as the Championship resumed should not worry anyone too much.
That's according to the Bluebirds boss Neil Harris, who paid tribute to the league leaders as well as their manager Marcelo Bielsa.
“I was pumped up for the game because I wanted to beat Leeds because I wanted to beat Marcelo Bielsa, because he's the main man," said Harris.
“The players were the same. They wanted to impose themselves on the division and they did that.”
Harris acknowledged that the absence of Pablo Hernandez had hurt Leeds - but he still thinks they are the strongest side in the division.
"They've been the best team in the league. Obviously, Hernandez not playing is a massive loss for them,” he said.
“A massive boost for us, him not being on the pitch, no disrespect to players that might come in, in that position, but he's a top player at this level.
“It’s [only] one game. My message to our players was 'we build on that'. Marcelo's, I'm sure, will be 'disappointing, but we will build on that.'”
Whelan hits out at Bamford
Noel Whelan was disappointed with Patrick Bamford's performance against Cardiff - and demanded an improvement for Saturday's match against Fulham.
“I have defended Patrick all season," he told Football Insider.
“I think he has done fantastic work and taken a lot of criticism from a lot of people but he looked very much out of sorts. He did not have his head in the game.
“Generally, even if he does not score he does a lot of work holding the ball up and bringing people into play but we did not see much of him yesterday.
“It did not seem like he believed he could score a goal. His first touch was not right."
The 26-year-old got in the way of a Jack Harrison effort in the first half, and couldn't convert a great cross from Kalvin Phillips in the second.
“There needs to be a massive improvement from Patrick for the game against Fulham," said Whelan.
“He will be disappointed that he did not make the most of the little chances that came his way.”
Buendia transfer link
Leeds are interested in Norwich City's Emiliano Buendia, according to Read Norwich.
The 23-year-old helped the Canaries to promotion and has been impressive even in their struggling Premier League side this season.
If Norwich are relegated, which looks likely, he is expected to move on - and Leeds are one of the clubs said to be interested in his signature.
The midfielder signed for Norwich in 2018 having spent the previous eight years at Getafe.
