Leeds United morning headlines as Marcelo Bielsa set for contract talks following title win

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Monday, July 20.

Bielsa to hold talks after earning promotion - report

Marcelo Bielsa has permanently etched his name into club folklore after finally guiding Leeds back into the top flight, but the head coach’s contract ends this summer.

He is now reportedly due to have talks with the club over his plans and potential extension of his stay, with Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear hopeful that the Argentinian boss will extend his commitment to the cause.

“I think he’s fallen in love with the club, I think he’s committed to it. I actually think he was committed to the Championship,” Kinnear said.

“He has a review, he knows the direction he wants to take the club in and it’ll go from things we need on the playing side right through to changes he wants to be made at Thorp Arch and the backroom staff.”

Those discussions should start as early as next week, as Leeds plot their first season in the top flight in 16 years.

Perfect” day for youngster Shackleton shows he’s ready for Premier League

Leeds handed game time to Jamie Shackleton at the weekend, after top spot was confirmed before they took to the field.

The youngster has mostly appeared off the bench this term, but the win over Derby County saw him start and shine, scoring his first league goal for the club and displaying the array of talents which show he is ready for the top flight.

A local-born player, Shackleton described the occasion as a “perfect day” and a moment he had “dreamed about for a long time” with his goal and the win.

He looks set to be able to play an increasingly prominent role in the first team, which will now be at the very highest level.

Dallas praises manager after promotion

Stuart Dallas has been a key man for Leeds this term and was full of praise for his team and his manager after the win against Derby.

The full-back spoke to Sky Sports at full-time and spoke of his gratitude for how the boss had completely changed Dallas’ own game.

“I thought we played like champions today. I think we were brilliant from the first whistle. You can see what it means to everyone involved,” he said.

“I don’t have any words to thank [Bielsa] for the transformation he’s done for me. He’s been massive. I’m just happy to be playing for a team that has won the league. I can’t describe it."
