Here are your Leeds United morning headlines for Thursday, 17 September.
Draxler offered no guarantees
Leeds have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler. They aren’t the only club reportedly interested, as you would expect for a player of his quality, with Arsenal also said to be in the running.
The German World Cup winner scored a 93rd-minute winning goal last night, as PSG – who were down to nine men thanks to a red card and an injury – picked up their first league victory of 2020/21.
But despite his heroics, PSG’s manager Thomas Tuchel did nothing to assure Draxler that he will be staying at the club when he spoke after the match.
"It's football, we can't guarantee anything. During the transfer window, we can't guarantee things because maybe the next day things will be different," he said.
De Paul to remain in Serie A?
Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, but it appears they are facing stiff competition from a whole host of clubs in Serie A.
The Athletic report that the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Roma are interested in signing the 26-year-old, and that clubs are willing to offer players in part exchange.
De Paul is valued at around €35-40million, so exchanging players to make up part of the fee seems a good idea.
He scored seven goals and created six more in Serie A last season, and has been a target for Leeds for several weeks.
Bielsa disappointed with performance
While remaining in the Premier League has to be the primary aim for Leeds United this season, supporters will have been disappointed to see their side dumped out of the Carabao Cup last night.
Hull City won 9-8 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Elland Road. The Whites were lucky to reach the shootout as it took a 93rd-minute Gjanni Alioski goal to avoid a defeat in normal time.
Speaking after the game, Marcelo Bielsa was understandably disappointed.
“It wasn't a very good game from our team. We didn't defend well or attack well,” he said.
