Leeds United hit with yet another injury blow as Marcelo Bielsa faces striker crisis

Sam Greenwood has revealed on his Instagram account that he is the latest Leeds United man to join the treatment room.

Greenwood was making his full senior debut for the Whites in yesterday’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round defeat to West Ham United but was substituted at half time.

Given that he was brought off alongside Lewis Bate in place of two senior stars Raphinha and Stuart Dallas, his substitution was thought to be just tactical.

However, that is not the case and Greenwood has become the latest of a long list of players that is facing a spell on the sidelines.

He said: “Yesterday wasn’t meant to be, but it’s a privilege to make my first start for Leeds United. Thanks for the support, unbelievable as always.

“Gutted to have picked up an injury but I’ll be back stronger.”

The 19-year-old is now the fifth of Marcelo Bielsa’s striking options that is injured, with Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo Moreno, Tyler Roberts and Joe Gelhardt all currently missing.

Bamford was set to start on Sunday after recovering from a hamstring injury but picked up a hip knock in training and it remains unclear how long he will now face out.

Rodrigo is still continuing his recovery from an ongoing heel issue he suffered last month, while Roberts is set to miss the next three to four weeks due to a calf problem.

Gelhardt, who was starting to make a real impact in the first team, will also be absent for a similar timeframe to Roberts after injuring his ankle in training on Thursday.

Greenwood has not provided any details of the injury or how long he faces on the sidelines, but Bielsa may be forced into another reshuffle at the weekend when Leeds again travel to West Ham for a Premier League clash.
