Leeds United evening headlines as White transfer fears are explained and the Augustin decision

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, July 1.

Hutton reacts to transfer development

Alan Hutton fears that Leeds could be priced out of a move for on-loan defender Ben White by his parent club Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.

White has spent the season on loan at the Championship leaders, and has certainly impressed, with the Whites keen to sign him permanently.

However, speaking to Football Insider, Hutton believes the Elland Road club may not be able to meet the Seagulls’ asking price of £35m.

He said: “I think he’s an excellent player, he’s done really, really well since the loan move but £35m? Wow, that is a big price.

“I think it’s kind of unfair, to be honest. Bournemouth kind of did it with (Tyrone) Mings and (Aston) Villa - they were happy to loan him out, therefore he probably wasn’t wanted at the time at the club.”

Augustin loan decision made

Jean-Kevin Augustin will leave Leeds after his loan deal from RB Leipzig officially came to an end last night.

Augustin was signed in January on a temporary deal by the Whites but has played just 49 minutes of first-team football.

However, Bielsa’s side have decided against extending the Frenchman’s loan deal at Elland Road and he will return to the Bundesliga club.

LeedsLive understands there is still an agreement in place for the Whites to buy the 22-year-old permanently if they achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Latest round of COVID-19 testing revealed

The EFL have confirmed there have been no new positive cases of coronavirus in the Championship after the latest round of testing.

A total of 2,798 players and club staff members were tested from the 24 Championship sides, and nobody’s test came back positive.

The second-tier resumed with games being played behind closed doors in mid-June, with Leeds chasing promotion to the Premier League.

In the latest round of Premier League testing, there was one positive case of COVID-19.
