Leeds United evening headlines as £500k decision could seal promotion, Lucas Radebe makes claim

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Sunday, May 24.

Lucas Radebe explains why Jonathan Woodgate was his best defensive partner

Leeds legend Lucas Radebe has elaborated on an earlier claim that Jonathan Woodgate was the best centre-half he played alongside at Leeds.

The South Africa international, who made more than 250 appearances for Leeds, recently took part in a Q+A session on the Leeds United official website.

“You have to get along and forge an understanding in terms of organisation at the back and I think Woodgate for me,” he said.

“He came up and stepped up to the first team and it wasn’t really his game, but he wanted to learn and he was a different player. He had pace, he was young so I could let him do the work and just look from behind!

“I think Woody and Rio (Ferdinand) are the best partners I’ve played with at the back.”

Hull confirm two positive coronavirus results

The EFL have confirmed two people have tested positive for coronavirus, of the 1,014 players and staff that have been tested across the division.

Two people are now self-isolating in accordance with EFL and government guidelines.

Hull City have since stated that the two individuals are at the club, although they didn’t specify whether it’s players or non-playing staff.

“The duo, who are both asymptomatic and feeling no ill effects, will now self-isolate for seven days – in line with the protocols set out in EFL guidelines – before being tested again at a later date,” read an official club statement

Championship restart faces potential stumbling block

If Leeds are to get back to action and play out their remaining nine fixtures, the EFL first needs to overcome a significant new obstacle.

The Sunday People report that an unspecified number of Championship clubs are unhappy about footing the £500k costs of playing out the remainder of the season.

It’s suggested they could vote against resuming the season, which could result in the Championship table being decided as it currently stands, on a points-per-game basis.

Earlier this week, clubs across the Football League decided that promotion and relegation would be decided by a points-per-game metric if the final nine matches don’t go ahead.

In that event, of course, Leeds would be promoted as champions - as long as the Premier League can confirm three clubs will be relegated.

Here’s everything you need to know about the latest developments and what it means for Leeds.
