Leeds United could sign striker in cut-price deal as Gary Neville makes Elland Road statement

Here is the Leeds United morning digest on Thursday, May 14.

Leeds could sign Adams on reduced fee

Leeds could sign Southampton striker Che Adams for a reduced fee in the summer, according to Football Insider.

The Saints accepted a £19m bid from Leeds for Adams in January, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl changed his mind at the last minute.

The report states Southampton have acknowledged they won’t be able to get close to the fee that was agreed upon in January due to the coronavirus crisis having a massive impact on how much clubs will be able to spend in the summer.

Adams is yet to score a Premier League goal for the club he joined from Birmingham City last summer and is likely to be available for just £10m.

Neville warns Norwich director over going to Elland Road

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has warned Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber not to visit Elland Road any time soon.

Webber suggested that Leeds should not be promoted if this season is not concluded on Sky Sports’ Football Show on Wednesday morning.

The Whites are on top of the Championship table as things stand, with the EFL doing everything they can to resume and finish the 2019/20 campaign.

Webber said: "The Championship has to start and play all their games, also. What we could not accept is a situation where we play out all our games, get relegated, but then the Championship can’t play and they automatically promote some teams who haven’t finished the season.

“It’s a 46 or 49-game slog. It’s a bit like saying the FA Cup finishes now, we can’t finish it, we’re in the quarter-finals, we’ve (Norwich) beaten a top-six Championship side and Premier League sides, does that mean we win the FA Cup, all get a medal and qualify for Europe?”

Neville replied: “I suggest you stay clear of Leeds, they’re a bit of a hostile bunch!”

Football finance expert explains Leeds’ investment chances may have changed

Kieran Maguire, a football finance expert, has explained how Leeds’ investment opportunities may have been impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain’s Qatari owners are interested in investing in the Championship club but with the financial crisis, things may have changed.

“Everybody is waiting for white smoke to come out of both the Premier League and EFL chimneys in terms of some sort of resumption to football and until that clears, it will be a brave person to invest in a Championship club with no guarantee of promotion,” Maguire said to Leeds Live.

“The chances are that Leeds will go up and deservedly so based on their football. There will be opportunities to buy certain clubs, Leeds included, simply because if they are promoted to the Premier League, there will be less money coming in next year from matchday revenues.

“It could be that the potential of a lucrative sponsorship deal won’t materialise as well because what is the point of buying a football shirt if you can’t go to a football match?

“I think it will be a real shame for them but they won’t be the only people cursing. If you think about Nike, having gone through all that trouble to win the Liverpool contract, they’ll be pretty upset as well.”
