Leeds United braced for Kalvin Phillips transfer question and they know the answer

Transfer offers will flood in for Kalvin Phillips if he continues his Euro 2020 excellence, but Leeds United remain confident he is their man to stay.

The Wortley native caught the eyes of the world with his performance in England’s opening match last weekend against Croatia.

While he has long been a star performer for Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites, Phillips has had to wait longer for acclaim on the international stage.

However, after turning heads and playing as man of the match for many spectators on Sunday, United chief executive Angus Kinnear foresees a few more phone calls on the midfielder.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, the Elland Road supremo felt it said a lot about where the Whites are at when they and the player feel so confident about staying together for the long-term.

“All the players: we want them to stay, they want to stay,” he said. “There are discussions being had, but we’re very confident of retaining everybody.

“We just need Kalvin to keep a little bit of a lid on it in the Euros because if he plays like that again we’ll get some offers, but we’re very confident.

“It says a lot about Leeds United that Kalvin is proving what all Leeds United fans know about what a great midfielder he is.

“We also know his future is secured at Leeds United. He wants to be here, we want him to be here and that’s a measure of where the club’s got to.”

Kinnear also addressed the way Phillips was representing not only himself, but his club and his city while away with the Three Lions.

“It’s not just he’s such a great player, but he’s become a great man as well,” he said.

“He carries himself brilliantly, he’s a fantastic ambassador for Leeds United and, I’ve spoken to a lot of fans, we all feel like proud parents with him representing England so wonderfully.

“It’s great for the club and it’s great for him because he’s worked so hard.”
