Leeds restaurant's moving gesture to help struggling families on Christmas Day

A Leeds restaurant will be offering people who are struggling free takeaway on Christmas Day.

Sami Younis, the owner of Jinnah, is to open from midday to 5pm on the day to ensure people who are struggling can have a hot meal.

All people have to do is to head to the award-winning restaurant and their order will be taken when they’re outside.

Speaking to Leeds Live, Sami said they offered the service last year during the pandemic as struggling families would get in touch asking for help.

In a bid to continue helping those who may be in a similar situation this year, Jinnah will offer the service once again.

The dad-to-be said: “People can pop in on the day and we will take their order when they’re outside.

“It’s about giving back to the people, since we’ve been working with the homeless project, we thought we might as well do it again.”

Jinnah has been working closely with Leeds Homeless Project for the past nine months and have been able to provide hot meals for 100 people each month.

Talking about why they began working with the charity, they have previously said: “We want to give back to the community, we struggled with Covid and so many people in our community have struggled.”
