Leeds February half term activities guide with ice skating, Peppa Pig, Lego workshops and more

As half term is here we’ve decided to take a look at some of the great things happening in Leeds for you and your little ones to enjoy.

We know what it is like, we all love having some time off with our children but it can be struggle to find the ideal activities to do with them.

So, we’ve taken a look at some fun suggestions of what you could get up to over the next week or so.

Below, you’ll find some exciting days out ideas as well as some interactive learning activities.

We really hope there’s something here to help you get through half term and put smiles on your children’s faces.

Valentine's Fair

Woodhouse Moor, Hyde Park, Leeds

February 14 until 23

This year, in its new home away from Leeds United's Elland Road, the Valentine's Fair which will boast over 70 rides and attractions, and will be taking place at Woodhouse Moor, in Hyde Park.

It will run from Friday, February 14 until Sunday, February 23.

The funfair will be open between 1pm and 9pm daily and is sure to be fun for people of all ages.

Admission is £1 for adults with free entry criteria for seniors and children.

There will also be student discounts and special ride price offers.

Ice Cube

Millennium Square, Leeds city centre

Until February 23

As well open skating sessions there will be accessible skating, skating lessons, school visit sessions and penguin club which allows little ones to develop their skills.

They will also be other family fun on offer such as fair rides and Radio Aire will be running parties at Ice Cube.

If you want to pay a visit to Ice Cube this is what the public ice skating session will cost:

Standard admission - £9

LeedsCard/LeedsCard Extra (with valid ID) - £7.50

Children under 13/BreezeCard - £7

Peppa Pig

Leeds Town Hall, Leeds city centre

February 18

If your little ones love Peppa Pig and they are ready for their first big theatre experience then you’ll want to take them to this event.

Peppa Pig: My First Concert is coming to Leeds Town Hall and it’ll be a fun interactive introduction to opera for children.

The show sees Peppa and her family invite you on a musical journey. Join Peppa as she discovers an orchestra for the first time in this accessible and exciting concert specially designed for the youngest audience members.

There will be three events during the day. They will take place at 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

Science and Slime

February 15 to 23

The daring scientists will be presenting a 35 min workshop filled with scientific surprises, smoke, flying things and, of course, plenty of slime!

There will also be sweet making as a science experiment, gooey slime making along with ‘magic’ tricks and spectacular experiments that’ll leave the children’s mouths open wide with amazement!

The Greatest Showman singalong screening

Leeds City Varieties, Leeds city centre

February 16

A massive singalong screening of The Greatest Showman is happening in Leeds.

The musical has been become a modern classic in recent years thanks to songs like The Greatest Show, A Million Dreams and Come Alive.

Hugh Jackman, Zach Efron and Rebecca Ferguson star in the production which is having a special singalong showing at Leeds City Varieties.

It looks like it will be a great family day out with fancy dress very much encouraged.

The event is happening at 2pm on February 16.

The Bear

February 18 to 22

A dazzling family production which has been compared to the iconic hit War Horse is heading to Leeds for half term.

Leeds Playhouse thinks The Bear could be pawfect day out with you and your little ones this February.

Critics have praised the eye-catching puppetry in the children’s show which is running at the Leeds city centre venue between February 18 and 22.

Ever wondered what it would be like to sit on a polar bear's lap? Or ride on its back? Have you ever tried to give a bear a bath?

Probably not. But now you can spend some quality time with an enormous snowy white bear in Raymond Briggs’ magical story.

One night when Tilly is fast asleep, a huge bear climbs into her bedroom. It has a long black tongue and a yawn as big as her head. But, still, she’s not scared.

LEGO workshop

Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, Armley, Leeds

February 18 to 20

If your children are devoted to LEGO then this is the event you have to go to.

Come and get hands-on with the collection and be inspired by Leeds innovators past and present, before building your own LEGO creations.

Then add a motor, get coding and make the design move, bleep, bloop and trigger images.

No coding is experience necessary. All your children have to do is come and learn something new, or build on existing skills.

The workshop is suitable for five to 11-year-olds.
