Leeds family mechanics warn of dangerous issue they keep seeing on cars

A Leeds family car repair business has flagged up important car safety checks 'most people forget to do'.

Bsmart Autocentre, based just off York Road in Leeds, has said there are lots of common mistakes people make that could make driving more dangerous. The centre is run by the Sirha family.

While many businesses were struggling during the pandemic, Bsmart saw growth, as more and more people took the time to come and get their vehicles checked out. The centre deals in both car inspections, services and repairs.

Managing directors Manny and Amandeep Sirha told LeedsLive: "We see so many vehicles coming in with serious safety issues that people often forget to check for.

"We see a lot of brakes with corroded discs - there's often wearing inside where people can't see them, which is why it's so important to get your car MOTed regularly. Lots of people forget to do that too - it's a really common mistake and more people than you think get stopped for it.

"Lots of people weren't driving so much over the pandemic and we definitely saw that impact - more people forgot to get their cars MOTed or make sure their vehicles were up to scratch. Wheel tread is also one people completely forget about that needs to be checked to ensure your vehicle is safe.

"We do a lot of educating people on vehicle safety when they come in - in general a lot of people don't know the basics."

Bsmart Autocentre have been up and running for 12 years. During lockdown, they relocated to LS9 and expanded as they experienced high demand for their services.

Most of the business is family-run, after it was expanded from B Autos Leeds, set up by Dave Sirha. Marketing manager Bina is married to Manny, and Amandeep is Manny's sister-in-law.

Bina Sirha said: "We only actually closed for four weeks during lockdown because demand was too high. We made sure to keep all our staff too.

"People needed us to be open so they could make sure their cars were safe. We make sure to not use lots of jargon when chatting to customers about their cars and most people come back to us a second time.

"We have a great customer base and I think a lot of people trust us to make sure their vehicles are safe."
