Leeds' COVID infection rate continues to soar as every area of Yorkshire sees jump in figures

The coronavirus infection rate in Leeds is continuing to soar, according to the latest figures.

The city's case rate has almost doubled in week with 380 new cases identified.

Leeds had an average 47.9 cases per 100,000 population in the seven days to September 4 - up from 29.6 just a week earlier.

For perspective, when neighbouring Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees had tighter lockdown restrictions imposed on them at the end of July their case rates were 48, 33.8 and just 23 respectively.

It continues a worrying trajectory for Leeds, which has been put on the government's coronavirus watchlist for areas at risk of a local outbreak.

Meanwhile, Bradford has shot up again from 46.3 to 70.6, far overtaking its rate at the end of July.

381 new cases in Bradford have catapulted the city into second on the list of places in England with highest infection rates.

According to the latest figures, everywhere in the county has seen a week-on-week increase in COVID infection rates with notable jumps in Scarborough and Selby.
