Leeds City Council has been a Labour majority council for over a decade now. Before this, there was a Labour minority government in the city and a Lib Dem-Tory coalition between 2004 and 2010.

This is the first election since the end of most Covid restrictions and the first since the numerous scandals, including 'partygate' struck Westminster. And so far it's been a rough result for the Conservatives, who have lost two flagship Tory councils - Wandsworth and Westminster - to Labour, as well as losing more than 100 seats across the UK.
