Lee Rigby's mum says it 'wouldn't be justice' if son's killer dies from Covid

Lee Rigby's mum says it "would not be justice" if coronavirus claimed the life of one of his killers.

Michael Adebowale is serving a 45-year sentence for murdering 25-year-old Fusilier Lee Rigby outside his barracks in Woolwich, South London in 2013.

He was convicted alongside Michael Adebolajo, now 36, who is serving a whole life term.

The victim's mum has spoken out after reports emerged that Adebowale is fighting for his life in hospital with coronavirus.

An insider told The Sun that Adebowale became ill at Broadmore, where he is imprisoned for murder.

The 29-year-old killer is said to be "fighting for every breath".

But Lee's mum said it would not be justice if he died "prematurely".

Lee’s mum, Lyn Rigby, 53, told the Sun: “It would not be justice for Covid to take this man prematurely and end the sentence handed to him.

“We’ve maintained true justice for Lee is to see his killers remain behind bars and serve every day of their sentence.”

It is understood Adebowale tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago.

A source told The Sun: “He’s in a very bad way and fighting for every breath."

The source claimed it's become a "24/7 battle" and if he deteriorates more intensive care will be the next step.

The Ministry of Justice said it could not comment on individual cases.
