Lee Bowyer is ready to commit his future to Charlton if he is offered a new contract.

Bowyer, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, has held talks with the hierarchy — even though owner Roland Duchatelet wants to sell the club.

Bowyer has guided Charlton to fifth in League One and said: “Somebody who works for the owner rang me on Monday and said they would like to speak to me about a new contract.

"I don’t know how long that will take.

“I want to stay here, do well next season and get promotion again.

“There is nothing more I would love to do than to get the club back into the Premier League.”

Charlton, who are currently 10 points adrift of second-place Barnsley in the third tier, face promotion rivals Portsmouth at The Valley on Saturday.

They sit five points behind fourth-place Pompey ahead of kick-off.
