LeBron James says he won’t predetermine performance for Game 4

Some people are waiting for LeBron James to put on his scoring hat and decide, heading into Game 4 that Tuesday night is where the hope for the Miami Heat to get back into the series ends with an All-Time performance. But LeBron James doesn’t work that way and he never has. While James prides himself on being more prepared than anyone else going into a game, his philosophy is never one of trying to predetermine his attack before seeing what the opponent is doing.

LeBron discussed how he attacks defenses on Monday morning when he was asked if he needed to have another performance, as he did in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, where he puts the onus on scoring baskets on himself.

“I’ve never predetermined my gameplay throughout my whole career,” James said Monday. “I’ve never gone into a game and said, I’ve got to get 40 tonight. I’ve never predetermined my game, I’ve never done that in my career. One thing Ive always been, I’ve always been prepared. But if you’re prepared then however the course of the game happens, you’re able to make adjustments throughout the game because you’re prepared and you’ve put in the work.”

James isn’t making any assumptions about what to expect in Game 4. With the Heat potentially getting Bam Adebayo back, a player who James said does things very few players in the NBA can do, predetermining what will happen without a crucial variable being known would be the least LeBron James thing he could possibly do.
